Années Folles – The Sequel

„Bad year? Annus horribilis. A decade of somber foreshadowing somehow still full of laughter and dance? It must be the sequel to the années folles. Extreme weather, wars, a shift to the right. In between: disbelief, disillusionment and self-deceit. Only the most vibrant of colours can hide the rot that’s underneath. So come and dance with me now, if you please!“

Rezensionen

This will be read again and again! Tun has an incredible talent for eloquently writing about life experiences while conveying deep emotions to the reader. I found myself continually dog-earing pages with lines that stuck out to me. My favourite part was Part IV: The Austrians. After finishing this piece, I had to take a moment to just sit and digest my thoughts and feelings.

There’s so much to unpack that I know it’ll become a well loved book that’s read again and again. Thank you Tun for sharing your work with the world!

A few of my favourite lines:

“Race, which is now left to face the aftermath of decades of oh well and just swell and laissez-faire because ce n’est pas mes affaires! Every set of averted eyes, every fight, left to run its ourse, every injustice suffered without a cry of outrage, it sets the stage for what has been coming for a while now, is currently coming and is yet to come.”

“We thought: queues, tariffs, labour shortage, inflation perhaps, yes, but what we could not fathom was that we would have to suffer ourselves, within the confines of our homes, if not for life, at least for a while.”

- Emily L.

  • “An entertaining and thought-provoking read - The twelve wonderfully crafted chapters of this poetic piece constitute a mesmerising train of thought that will resonate with anyone who is trying to stay sane in the increasingly “crazy” world we live in. Definitely recommend!”

  • “Great little travel in thoughts - Tun has an old soul and makes you travel in images and thoughts along a poetic road of his own. I found myself wanting to highlight a few phrases as they were spot-on and inspiring and triggered thoughts in me. The writing style gives a lot of room for interpretation and identification. Very interesting and quick read!”

  • “Lovely poetry - Some poetry is angry and raw and edgy. This is not. It’s like a soft fall aesthetic, with some really powerful statements in between. It’s a perfect fit for a glass of wine and a mind full of thoughts.”

  • “Une lecture fluide et agréable - This poetry has great flow. Personal moments intermix with recent events creating a very pleasant reading experience. Allusions abound! An attentive reader will find a lot of enjoyment here.”

    - Jonas B.

    - Anne S.

  • Années Folles is a powerful book, smoothly swinging from intimism poetry to an active denouncement of the most recent horrors. Wars, pandemics, and extreme political movements are the tiles of a complex mosaic that ultimately portrays the author's soul. The writing plays with line length and stanza breaks, resulting in an intermittent rhythm. Beneath this stuttering flow of speech, a melancholic tone beats across the variety of symbolic figures and broad references that form an impressionist painting of the last ten years.

  • Wow, what a wild ride that was! This was such an intense, captivating run through recent history and the very loud, confusing, and overwhelming now we are living in - it left me breathless!
The verses felt and sounded like they were made to be proclaimed, the words had almost performative character. I’d love to hear the author read them some day!
