Man leans in front of a camera and smiles warmly into the picture

Hi, I am Tun.

I write. Some of what I write can be read and understood in an instant, some of it might take you a little longer. My writing will sometimes elicit tears of joy and other times just tears. I try to time when that happens. How deeply you connect and what emotions you feel, will however ultimately be decided by what you bring to the reading experience. Whatever emotions may take over: I enjoy those moments in which we connect without ever having laid eyes on each other.

You already know the experiences that shape you as a reader. So, let’s delve a bit deeper into what experiences shape my writing.

About

I was born in Luxembourg. It was a Thursday in summer, just in time for lunch. I would continue to eat lunch in Luxembourg for most of the next 18 years. In case you haven’t yet heard of Mielkniddelen: google it immediately and then either make yourself a batch or try to get an invitation to eat some at my place.

Since eating is, unfortunately (?), not everything in life, whenever food was not being served, I read and analysed literature at school, which I attended in Luxembourg and the United States, and started dabbling in writing myself. Jazz, theatre, and golf helped me to fill whatever holes there were still left in my schedule.

After high school, I studied law in Paris and Berlin, graduating with a First German Legal State Exam as well as a Licence en Droit and a Maîtrise en Droit.

This felt like an important milestone. A milestone which allowed me to reorient myself. So, I packed my favourite clothes and my laptop into a suitcase and flew to Edinburgh. In Edinburgh, I felt more alive than I ever had before. Here, I was a blank page, writing my own story. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed rainy walks, whisky tastings and everything else the city has to offer, in the back of my mind, I had this nagging voice telling me that my legal education wasn’t done after all.

I thus moved to Bremen and finished my legal education with the Second German Legal State Exam after two years of legal clerkship.

Now a fully qualified German lawyer, I felt that it was time to leave the legal sector again. I worked at a PR firm where I came up with ideas, wrote press releases and organised events.

After a while, that nagging voice that had told me to finish my legal education a couple of years earlier, was now telling me that I needed to work as a lawyer for a while before discarding the profession. So, I founded my own law firm and started working as a lawyer.

You know where that has led me. Here. I write. Hi, I am Tun.

Années Folles – The Sequel

„Bad year? Annus horribilis. A decade of somber foreshadowing somehow still full of laughter and dance? It must be the sequel to the années folles. Extreme weather, wars, a shift to the right. In between: disbelief, disillusionment and self-deceit. Only the most vibrant of colours can hide the rot that’s underneath. So come and dance with me now, if you please!“

Reviews

This will be read again and again! Tun has an incredible talent for eloquently writing about life experiences while conveying deep emotions to the reader. I found myself continually dog-earing pages with lines that stuck out to me. My favourite part was Part IV: The Austrians. After finishing this piece, I had to take a moment to just sit and digest my thoughts and feelings.

There’s so much to unpack that I know it’ll become a well loved book that’s read again and again. Thank you Tun for sharing your work with the world!

A few of my favourite lines:

“Race, which is now left to face the aftermath of decades of oh well and just swell and laissez-faire because ce n’est pas mes affaires! Every set of averted eyes, every fight, left to run its ourse, every injustice suffered without a cry of outrage, it sets the stage for what has been coming for a while now, is currently coming and is yet to come.”

“We thought: queues, tariffs, labour shortage, inflation perhaps, yes, but what we could not fathom was that we would have to suffer ourselves, within the confines of our homes, if not for life, at least for a while.”

- Emily L.

  • “An entertaining and thought-provoking read - The twelve bv crafted chapters of this poetic piece constitute a mesmerising train of thought that will resonate with anyone who is trying to stay sane in the increasingly “crazy” world we live in. Definitely recommend!”

    -Jérôme B.

  • “Great little travel in thoughts - Tun has an old soul and makes you travel in images and thoughts along a poetic road of his own. I found myself wanting to highlight a few phrases as they were spot-on and inspiring and triggered thoughts in me. The writing style gives a lot of room for interpretation and identification. Very interesting and quick read!”

    - Stéphan C.

  • “Lovely poetry - Some poetry is angry and raw and edgy. This is not. It’s like a soft fall aesthetic, with some really powerful statements in between. It’s a perfect fit for a glass of wine and a mind full of thoughts.”

    - Anonymous

  • “Une lecture fluide et agréable - This poetry has great flow. Personal moments intermix with recent events creating a very pleasant reading experience. Allusions abound! An attentive reader will find a lot of enjoyment here.”

    - Jonas B.
